Happy anniversary! United set to commemorate Ferguson with statue

Key figures from Fergie’s reign will be in attendance for the unveiling.

TODAY IS THE 26th anniversary of Alex Ferguson’s appointment as Man United manager, and the club are set to mark the occasion by unveiling a statue of the manager at the end of the month.

The date of the unveiling will be 23 November at 2pm, the club’s official website has confirmed, with key figures during Ferguson’s reign set to be in attendance.

The event takes place the day before United host QPR in the Premier League – and coincidentally, the London club were the first side Ferguson faced at Old Trafford after being appointed United’s manager on 6 November 1986.

The statue, which is being created by renowned sculptor Philip Jackson, will be located near the entrance to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.

Details for fans hoping to attend the ceremony will be announced in due course.
