Hurling on its way back to Boston two years after feisty Dublin-Galway tussle

The Fenway Classic will take place on 19 November.

HURLING WILL BE showcased at historic baseball ground Fenway Park for the second time in two years this November.

Dublin and Galway played an 11-a-side match at the home of the Boston Red Sox two years ago, although the game, named the Fenway Classic, was more notable for the brawls between the two sides than a 50-47 win for the Tribesmen.

There were shemozzles to beat the band last time out but the Super 11 concept, which attracted 28,000 spectators, will get another airing on 19 November as part of Boston’s Irish Festival.

The shortened format has a number of different rules from the traditional game — aside from the reduction in personnel — including only allowing goals to be scored.

There will be a double-header this time around, meaning four inter-county sides will get the opportunity to strut their stuff at the oldest Major League Baseball ground in America.

The identity of the four teams remains unknown, although as the event is being organised by Dublin sponsors AIG, it’s expected the men from the capital will once again be involved.
