Faroes boss expecting Irish backlash

“I am sure we will have a very tough game tomorrow,” Lars Olsen added. Don’t patronise us, Faroe Islands.

THINGS ARE GETTING bad when the manager of one of the world’s footballing minnows seems to be sympathetically talking you up.

Ahead of their World Cup qualifier, Faroe Island boss Lars Olsen says he’s expecting Giovanni Trapattoni’s Ireland squad to come out fighting tomorrow night.

The Italian coach is under severe pressure in the wake of Friday night’s 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Germany in Dublin.

Bookmakers have suspended betting on Trap leaving the job before the end of the year amid calls for the FAI to act.

But Olsen insists the Irish will be a tough proposition at the Torsvollur Stadium in Torshavn tomorrow night.

“When you lose 6-1 at home in a country like Ireland, of course you will be under pressure,” he said this afternoon.  ”We know Ireland are the favourites tomorrow, as Sweden were, but we will try to do our best.

“The Faroe Islands are a small team and almost every team we are playing against will be the favourites against us. It’s a new team, the coach from Ireland, Trapattoni, is a very old guy in the game and I am sure he has told the players, ‘Okay, now we start a new game, you have to do your best’.

“I am sure we will have a very tough game tomorrow,” he added.
