7 reasons we wish Fantasy Football League was on tonight

Rising like a Phoenix from the Flames.

THE MORE ALERT amongst you might have noticed that Sky Sports have a ‘Fantasy Football’ show running every Friday night fronted by the Dream Team of Fenners and Merse.

To quote Blur, modern life is rubbish. Here’s why we wish the original was on tonight on our telly-boxes.

7.  The intro was great

6. Statto was in it

You might now know him as Channel 4 Racing’s Angus Loughran or the man in the glasses who sits behind Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. But for a few years in the mid-90s, he wore a house coat and sat in a TV kitchen.

5. Jeff Astle sings

For football fans of a certain age Astle was a no nonsense West Brom centre forward; for those of us growing up when football was becoming cool, he was the man who came on in costume to sing out the show every Saturday night.

4. The guests were good

Remember when Alan Hansen and the guy off They Think It’s All Over were cool?

And Delia was known for her cooking and not ‘letsbehavinya’!’

3. The bullying of Jason Lee

It wasn’t nice… but he did have a pineapple on his head. Poor lad.

2. Phoenix From The Flames

Every week they recreated a magical moment from football history. In a really stupid way. Here’s our own Chippy Brady:

1. It spawned one of the most enduring football songs the terraces have ever seen

Even though I’m not a big enough man to support England — ever — this is was a proper tune, right?
