THE FANS RESPONSIBLE for Ireland’s finest contribution to Euro 2012, the “Angela Merkel thinks we’re at work” banner, have put their newfound fame to good use.
The group – or “Merkel Flag Crew,” as they’ve since been dubbed, visited the national side’s training camp in Poznan yesterday and persuaded the squad, Shay Given and Robbie Keane included, to put pen to tricolour.
Their handiwork will be auctioned on Ryan Tubridy’s 2FM show this coming Thursday (details here), with all proceeds from the auction going to Crumlin Children’s Hospital and Oscar Knox, a three-year-old from Belfast currently battling neuroblastoma.
