SHERIFF YC’S FAI Cup dream could quickly turn into a nightmare after it emerged that one of their giantkilling heroes may have been ineligible to play.
The non-leaguers booked their place in the cup quarter-finals on Friday after they fought back from two goals down to dump out Shelbourne 3-2.
However, the FAI said last night that it was investigating a “possible player eligibility issue” after learning that one of the AUL side’s players might not have been registered in time.
A meeting has been called for Friday at which the club, the AUL, and the competition manager of the FAI Cup are all expected to attend.
