FAI strongly suggest Dundalk duo set to make final Ireland squad

Roy Keane and Martin O’Neill were both at the Aviva Stadium yesterday to watch the pair in action

THE FAI HAVE strongly hinted that Ireland pair Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan are set to make the final squad to face Austria.

Manager Martin O’Neill and assistant boss Roy Keane were both at the Aviva Stadium yesterday to watch the duo in action against Cork in the FAI Cup final.

Ever since Horgan and Boyle were called into the provisional squad, there has been much speculation as to whether they will make the final cut, with O’Neill expected to confirm the travelling party this evening.

Earlier today, the FAI tweeted a picture with training jerseys for the Dundalk pair, suggesting they are set to be part of the group that travels to Austria.

It would certainly be a morale boost for Horgan and Boyle, who are currently getting over the disappointment of a dramatic last-gasp loss to Cork yesterday.

They would join Gary Rogers as the only League of Ireland players to be officially called up during O’Neill’s tenure.

Moreover, if either Horgan or Boyle were to feature in Austria, they would become the first League of Ireland player(s) to line out for the Boys in Green since then-Cork City star Joe Gamble was involved in Steve Staunton’s side’s US tour in 2007.
