FAI Cup round-up: Pat's hit Pike Rovers for eight in rout at Richmond Park

Limerick, Cobh Ramblers, Sligo Rovers, Crumlin United and Ringmahon Rangers also booked their place in the third round.

St. Patrick’s Athletic 8-0 Pike Rovers

ST PAT’S EARNED a new club record win in the FAI Cup by scoring eight goals without reply against Pike Rovers.

Two goals each for Billy Dennehy, Mark Timlin and Graham Kelly and a goal apiece from Michael Barker and Dinny Corcoran ensured the Saints had the most comfortable of routes to the next round.

The game was good as over after four minutes as goals from Dennehy and Timlin gave the home side a two-goal lead. Liam Buckley’s team failed to add to their tally after 61 minutes but Kelly did miss a penalty late on to complete his hat-trick.

Bluebell United 2-5 Limerick

A hat-trick from John O’Flynn helped send Limerick to the third round as Martin Russell’s side made it 15 wins in a row with a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Leinster Senior League side Bluebell United.

Despite Limerick being drawn as the away side, Bluebell opted to have the game at Markets Field and it was Chris Mulhall that opened the scoring for the First Division side.

John O’Flynn doubled Limerick’s advantage from the spot just before half-time, after taking over penalty kick duties from Shane Tracy who missed a penalty earlier in the half.

A second penalty and a goal just before the break sealed O’Flynn’s hat-trick and Limerick’s passage to the next round.

There was still time for Sean Byrne and Toyeeb Mustapha to strike in the final minutes to put some respectability on the scoreline for the Dublin side before Paul O’Connor scored in stoppage time to get Limerick’s fifth and final goal of the game.

Ringmahon Rangers 2-1 Glebe North

Ringmahon Rangers got the better of Glebe North in the only all-non-league tie of the round.

Paul Deasy gave the Cork side the lead in the second-half before Roy Kenny double their advantage a minute after Anthony Burke was sent off for Glebe North.

Ciaran O’Connor gave the Balbriggan side hope before Rangers were reduced to 10 men for the closing stages.

Cobh Ramblers 2-1 Cherry Orchard

First Division side Cobh Ramblers saw off the brave challenge from Cherry Orchard to book their place in the Third Round.

Shane O’Connor gave the home team an early lead at St Colman’s Park but Ryan Coombes equalised just before half-time to put the Dublin side level at the break.

Eoin McGreevy netted the winner just four minutes into the second period as Stephen Henderson’s side progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, Sligo Rovers cruised past Cabinteely thanks to goals from Kieran Sadlier, Jimmy Keohane and Gavin Peers.

In a big shock, Finn Harps were dumped out by Crumlin United and Athlone Town and Letterkenny Rovers will need to do it again on Tuesday after a goalless draw this evening.
