MONACO STAR Fabinho is keen to join Manchester United this summer and an agreement is edging nearer, it is understands.
Fabinho, who has played over 180 games for the principality club, scoring 23 goals, is valued at around €45 million, and sources have confirmed that the transfer could be sealed in the coming days.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Goal understands the 23-year-old has been been given assurances that he would be played in a full-back role too, something that appeals to the Brazil international.
And Fabinho, who has also played for Real Madrid, is desperate to increase his chances of making Tite’s national team squad for the 2018 World Cup, having been largely overlooked up to now.
Regarding United’s interest, Fabinho said on Friday: “It’s a tempting invitation. I would first talk to my agent, Monaco too, to decide everything is right.
“But it’s a great club, sure enough I would think well about it.”
Manchester City have also been linked with a bid for Fabinho, but it appears a move to United is of more appeal.
Any potential confirmed transfer in the coming days would represent the club’s second signing of the summer, with Victor Lindelof having already been secured from Benfica.
The Red Devils are also searching for a centre forward to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Alvaro Morata high on the list of priority targets.
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is another who has been on United’s radar but it remains to be seen if the signing of Fabinho would scupper plans of a move for the Serb.

“It is understands”
Well proofed.
Can’t see Jose dropping Valencia next season. He was one of his main guys last season. Carrick’s replacement more likely.
@Nollaig Elliot: True although Valencia isn’t getting any younger too and will be 32 (not for the scrap heap yet of course) in a couple of months.
@Dave Murray: I think the Matic deal is unlikely so maybe could be the reason for this.
#AB FAB seriously lads ???
“Defensive midfielder” great know Jose isn’t going to change his “park the bus” tactics next season
@Jamie: ffs lad give yourself a day off
@Lurfic: sorry buddy I know it’s hard for some to accept that the great attacking MUFC has become a defensive bore of a team it’s a sensitive subject for you
Would love to see him at Utd but to be honest what started off as a yessssss! when I seen the headline turn to a yeaaaaa right at the first mention of Goal.com
@Mark Nugent: didn’t want him anyway
@Mark Nugent: exactly mark. Goal just repeat rubbish rumours. Suppose if you mention enough players one of them is bound to sign for united
@Diarmuid: yea and then they tell you that you heard it there first lol
Article is from Goal, so treat with a huge amount of caution. Most pieces are rubbish rumours
