United and City target reportedly on verge of surprise move to Atlético

Reports in Spain suggest the capital club have agreed a fee with Monaco.

ATLÉTICO MADRID HAVE beaten both Manchester clubs to a chief summer target, according to reports in Spain.

According to AS, Monaco right-back Fabinho will join the Champions League semi-finalists after the two clubs agreed a deal worth €45m.
F.J. Díaz of the Spanish newspaper reports that the Brazilian, who played against Manchester City in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals, will remain at Monaco until January before heading for the Spanish capital. The 23-year-old also excels in a defensive midfield slot, and was linked with a move to Monaco’s Ligue 1 rivals PSG as a potential midfielder. Monaco, however, were understood to be averse to directly strengthening their nearest title rivals.

The former Real Madrid youngster took over penalty duties at Stade Louis II in 2014, and has scored 19 goals in his last two seasons at Monaco.

He registered two assists in the away leg of Monaco’s stunning Champions League triumph over Manchester City back in March, and drove home a low finish in their decisive 2-0 home victory. He has been capped four times by Brazil.

Last night, L’Equipe stated that Fabinho wanted to leave Monaco in this summer’s transfer window, also reporting that PSG were the only club to have made an official bid for the player.
