F1: Turkey on the menu for additional Euro Grand Prix

The extra European date has been pencilled in for July 21 of the new season.

THE INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILE Federation (FIA) has opened a spot on the 2013 calendar for another European event.

Reports earlier in the year suggested the return of a French Grand Prix after a five-year hiatus was in the offing but it now appears the most likely addition will be the return of the Turkish Grand Prix at a revamped Istanbul Park.

In accordance, the German Grand Prix has been brought forward one week to July 7, leaving a two-week buffer between the reserved date of July 21.

The changes were forecast at the final meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Istanbul on Wednesday.

“The date for the 2013 Grand Prix of Germany has been moved to 7 July, and 21 July has been reserved for another F1 European event, subject to the approval of the relevant ASNs,” the FIA stated.

In related Formula One news, teams will undergo more stringent front wing deflection tests next season.
