Everton sign free agent Hitzlsperger on short-term deal

The German has joined until January, with David Moyes hoping he can fill the gap left by injured duo Marouane Fellaini and Darron Gibson.

EVERTON HAVE SIGNED midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger on a short-term deal until January.

The former German international left Wolfsburg in the summer and has been without a club since, having played only two league matches last season before suffering a knee injury.

Hitzlsperger signed for the Goodison Park club before midday on Friday, meaning he is available for Sunday’s Premier League clash against QPR at Loftus Road.

The 30-year-old, who has previously played for both Aston Villa and West Ham, had been training with David Moyes’ side in recent weeks and played an under-21 match on October 8th in a bid to prove his fitness.

The signing of Hitzlsperger comes at a handy time for Moyes.

Marouane Fellaini will miss the next three weeks with a knee injury, while Darron Gibson is also out with a thigh injury.
