Evans out to end Spurs challenge with United win

“They are great side and I think everyone has been really impressed with the style of football they play.”

JONNY EVANS BELIEVES that Tottenham’s title challenge will be over if Manchester United beat them today.

United grabbed a last-gasp winner to beat Norwich City last time out, while Tottenham succumbed to a humiliating 5-2 loss to north London rivals Arsenal. The reigning champions travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday and centre-back Evans is expecting a tough test from Harry Redknapp’s attack-minded team.

Evans told the Manchester Evening News: “They are great side and I think everyone has been really impressed with the style of football they play.

“They are really attacking and Harry Redknapp has built up a great squad, it’s not just a first XI. It is going to be really tough game when we go there. For us they are all important games, but if we can beat Tottenham, you would think we might rule them out.”

Spurs are eight points behind United and a further two points adrift of table-toppers Manchester City with just 12 games remaining. They will be without suspended midfielder Scott Parker and, possibly, influential winger Gareth Bale through injury.

United, however, have been boosted with Wayne Rooney set to recover from a throat infection in time to feature.
