European U23 Boxing: Ireland open Euro campaign

Dublin’s Thurles Moran and Donegal’s Jason Quigley are in action in Russia later this evening.

IRELAND’S BOXERS BEGIN their medal challenge at the inaugural European U23 Championships with two bouts in Kaliningrad, Russia later this evening.

Dublin’s Thurles Moran is first in the ring when he takes on Tubhi Taha Amara of Israel in the welterweight preliminaries from 6pm Irish time.

Jason Quigley then faces his first test in the middleweight division as he looks to add further honours to the European Youth gold which he won in 2009.

Armed with experience from last season’s World Series of Boxing, the 21-year-old from Finn Valley, Donegal fights Adam Grabecz of Hungary from 6.45pm.

The remainder of Ireland’s seven-man squad, managed by John Finn and coached by Zaur Antia, will have their opening fight between Wednesday and Friday.
