Watch: Ernie Els begins Masters with horror seven-putt for a 10 on first hole

The four-time Major winner has left himself with a mountain to climb.

AS STARTS GO, they don’t come much worse.

Ernie Els, a four-time Major winner and two-time second-place finisher at Augusta, carded a 10 on the par-four first hole today.

Els, playing with Jason Day and Matt Kuchar, seven-putted from only a couple of feet to see him slide to six-over par after just the first hole at Augusta.

*Disclaimer: Some golfers may find this distressing.

While many may take solace from the fact that these things can even happen to golfers of Els’ calibre, you’ve got to feel for The Big Easy.

It’s going to be a serious uphill battle from here.
