'The English don’t want to understand tactics,' says former Ireland assistant boss Tardelli

The 61-year-old also gave his thoughts on Ireland’s qualification for Euro 2016.

FORMER IRELAND ASSISTANT boss Marco Tardelli has warned Antonio Conte about English football’s supposed lack of interest in tactics.

Current Italy manager Conte has been heavily linked with the Chelsea job, which current boss Guus Hiddink is set to vacate in the summer.

And Tardelli has issued a warning to his fellow countryman.

“It’ll be a wonderful experience for Conte and he’ll settle in well in London,” the World Cup winner told Radio Deejay.

“He will have the opportunity to build a team, just as Jose Mourinho did. The only problem is that the English don’t really want to understand tactics.”

Tardelli also praised the Irish team for reaching Euro 2016.

“It’s a good Ireland and they have improved,” he said. “In our day they got tired of listening to us talk, but we both took steps towards each other and they too realised we have to be balanced on the field.”
