English clubs keeping tabs on Hoops striker Sheppard

The Rovers frontman’s potential suitors are believed to include sides from the Premier League and the Championship.

SHAMROCK ROVERS FORWARD Karl Sheppard could be set for a move to England – with a number of clubs reportedly interested.

The 20-year-old former Everton trainee scored 14 goals for the Hoops, including one against PAOK Salonika on their maiden Europa League voyage, since signing from Galway United in January.

Last month also saw the Portmarnock native make his Ireland U21 debut, coming on as a 72nd-minute substitute for Noel King’s side in their 2-0 win over Liechtenstein.

And with his contract expiring at the end of this month, the likes of Sunderland, Cardiff City and Watford are believed to be monitoring the player.

“Karl’s had a great season for Shamrock, he’s scored 10 goals and is the first striker name on their team sheet,” the player’s agent Dan Fletcher told Sky Sports.

“He’s also been rewarded with a Republic of Ireland U21 cap recently for his hard work.

“He’s out of contract in December, so of course there’s significant interest in him from England.”

Preparations for Thursday’s final group game with Tottenham Hotspurs haven’t been helped by the uncertainty surrounding manager Michael O’Neill’s future, but after seeing Rovers team-mate Enda Stevens snapped up by Aston Villa recently, Sheppard will be hoping to impress when the Premier League club come to Tallaght Stadium.
