Care had already accepted a police caution for being drunk and disorderly the same night after he was arrested for urinating outside the historic Queens Hotel but wasn’t questioned on the alleged sexual assault until recently.
The player has been bailed pending further inquiries.
According to Harlequins, Care denies the allegations, with a spokesman saying:
Danny Care was asked to report to West Yorkshire Police in Leeds to answer further questions about the incident that took place in the city on 4 March. On 15 March, Danny attended Leeds police station voluntarily by appointment. He denies the allegations made against him. Harlequins are fully aware of all the facts and will continue to support Danny as he addresses this situation.
The arrest is Care’s fourth in just over three months, including two arrests for drink-driving offences.
He was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £3,100 after being caught drink driving in the early hours of New Year’s Day, an incident which led to Care being excluded from England’s Six Nations campaign.
Care was also fined £10,000 by Harlequins following an earlier arrest for drink-driving in December of last year.
