England run in five tries against Wales in tour warm-up at Twickenham

The margin of victory would have been even greater had George Ford not missed six of his seven kicks.

ENGLAND OUT-SCORED WALES by five tries to one to record a convincing 27-13 victory at Twickenham ahead of the teamsโ€™ upcoming southern hemisphere tours.

Warren Gatlandโ€™s men were quick out of the blocks this afternoon, opening up a 10-point lead inside 15 minutes as Dan Biggar added a penalty to a converted score from Rob Evans.

Wales, who lost skipper Dan Lydiate to an injury in the first half, still held a slender advantage at half-time, but the 2016 Six Nations and Grand Slam winners ran in 17 unanswered points in the second period.

Englandโ€™s margin of victory would have been even more comfortable had George Ford not endured a miserable day with the boot, the Bath fly-half missing six of his seven attempts at goal.

Fordโ€™s inaccuracy from the tee saw Eddie Jonesโ€™ side, who play the first of three Tests with Australia on 11 June, trail 13-10 at the interval despite Luther Burrell and Anthony Watson crossing.

Ben Youngs cut through Walesโ€™ defence from the back of a lineout to put England ahead for the first time early in the second half, before a breakaway try from Jack Clifford, his first for England, was converted by Ford.

Marland Yarde โ€” a controversial selection by Jones at the expense of Chris Ashton โ€” rounded off the scoring, leaving Wales with much room for improvement ahead of their series against world champions New Zealand.

Wales centre Jamie Roberts told Sky Sports: โ€œIt was frustrating, we didnโ€™t come out in the second half. We didnโ€™t stay in it for 80 minutes. Weโ€™ve got two weeks to work on it before the first Test [in New Zealand]. We know the level weโ€™re at, and we know where we need to be.โ€
