Taoiseach Enda Kenny records farewell message for Eric Elwood

The Fine Gael leader took time out from running the country to wish the departing Connacht coach well.

NOT CONTENT WITH a golden clock or a bouquet of flowers, Connacht Rugby approached An Taoiseach Enda Kenny to say a few words about departing coach, Eric Elwood.

The country’s leader went one better and recorded a video for the former Ireland and Connacht outhalf. The message will be played out for Elwood, who has a 24 year association with the western province, will leave Connacht in the coaching hands of New Zealander Pat Lam.

His final duties this evening will be to send Connacht out onto the pitch, at the Sportsground in Galway, tonight with instructions to give him and the home support a winning send-off.

Speaking to TheScore.ie this week, Connacht scrumhalf Kieran Marmion said, “He is an absolute legend around here and you can feel the passion he has for Connacht every time he talks to us individually or as a team.

“I hope that we can fill the ground tonight and give Eric a winning send-off.” Connacht versus Glasgow Warriors kicks off at 7:45pm this evening.
