Liverpool close in on deal for teenage wonderkid

Emeka Obi’s move from Bury to Merseyside is close to being finalised.

LIVERPOOL ARE ON the verge of completing a deal to bring Bury’s 15-year-old defender Emeka Obi to Anfield.

The teenage central defender, who stands at an imposing 6ft 5in, made his debut for the League One club earlier this season, when he came on as a late substitute in his side’s 4-1 victory over Morecambe in the EFL Trophy.

Bury boss David Flitcroft has been full of praise of the young defender after handing him his first senior start, describing him as one of the best prospects in England.

“I think he’s the best talent right now at 15 years old in the entire country. He only came in the building two years ago and nothing fazes him,” Flitcroft said.

“He’s been training with the first team and he’s going back to school next week.

“We’ve had him for five weeks, training with the first team, training with Ryan Kidd and he’s been playing with the U18s.”

It is understood that only the formalities of the move need to be completed for the signing to be announced, although the youngster appeared to confirm the move on Twitter.
