THE SHORTLIST FOR the eir Sport Sports Book of the Year prize have been revealed.
Munster and Ireland legend Paul O’Connell’s autobiography The Battle is among the books shortlisted.
Last week, he took home the prize for Irish sports book of the year at the Bord Gais Energy Book Awards.
Four other books are on the shortlist, among them Kieran Donaghy’s new book What do you think of that? and Cathal McCarron’s Out of Control.

Rob Heffernan’s autobiography ‘Walking Tall’ and ‘Spirit of ’58′ by Evan Marshall also made the cut.
In its second year, the eir Sport Sports Book of The Year is an initiative designed to recognise the very best in Irish sports writing in by seeking the best sports book published by an Irish author, or sports book with an Irish subject matter.
“We are delighted to announce the shortlist for the eir Sport Sports Book of The Year. It was a difficult task for the judging panel to narrow it down to five contenders this year. This shortlist reflects a diversity of writing styles and subject matters,” Brian Quinn, Operations Director of eir Sport said.
“The five shortlisted books and authors will be the subject of five separate specialist programmes broadcast on eir Sport detailing their respective books.”
“eir Sport wishes to commend each author and publisher who submitted books for the award with special congratulations to the five authors and publishers on the final shortlist.”
John Leonard’s Dub Sub Confidential was last year’s winner.
The winner will be announced on Monday, 5 December, and will receive a €1,500 cash prize, a specially commissioned trophy and €10,000 worth of TV advertising on eir Sport.
