THE CONDITION OF the pitch at Murrayfield has been appalling for some time now, so it is a relief that tonight’s Pro12 clash with Ulster will be the final game there before resurfacing work begins.
A new hybrid pitch will replace the current surface, which has constantly torn up under the pressure of games this season. Following Edinburgh’s clash with Ulster [KO 7.45pm], the Scottish club have invited fans to join them on the “hallowed turf” in Edinburgh.
“Very few have the honour of running out at Murrayfield and we thought that this was the ideal opportunity to offer that experience to our fans, who will hopefully bring a ball and have a bit of fun after the game,” said David Davies, the club’s managing director.
The idea of heading down onto the Murrayfield pitch following the game this evening will, of course, be tempting for many supporters of both teams involved, but there has been a rather off-putting warning not to attempt to take a souvenir.
As the pitch is infected with a parasitic worm, we ask that fans do not try and take any of the surface home,” stated Davies.

Edinburgh have two further home games left in the league this season after tonight’s clash, with the fixture against the Cardiff Blues set for Meggetland. However, the location for the clash with Munster on the 2nd of May has not yet been confirmed.
