A GRAPHIC IMAGE has surfaced revealing the extent of the facial damage suffered by Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson following a high-footed challenge by Liverpool’s Sadio Mané.
The Senegalese attacker received his marching orders having inadvertently planted his studs in the 24-year-old ‘keeper’s face while contesting for a bouncing ball at the edge of City’s box.
Ederson was stretchered off and missed the majority of City’s subsequent 5-0 win, and a photograph which appears to have been taken in the dressing room after he received stitches depicts the severity of the injury.
The goalkeeper reappeared in the Etihad stands before the full-time whistle after receiving treatment, and was this morning criticised by Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale for not waving to the home crowd as he was stretchered off.
Gale, in turn, was lambasted on social media for what many considered to be a nonsensical take on the incident.
Mané, who was visibly distraught as he was being ordered from the field of play, has since apologised for his challenge on the Brazilian youth international.

Though Suarez was back for a moment.
@Hank: looks like some one was in temple bar saturday night
@Hank: red all day, every day no matter who did it.
Chicks dig scars
@David OfBrien: yeah, but not when they are next to stupid smiley face tattoos.
@Jason Brosnahan: that’s true
Fair play to the doctor for giving him a smiley sticker
Rough enough one. However, in Mane’s defence, he simply had to challenge for the ball. As a forward he had every right to go for it. It was accidental and unfortunate what happened but you could see he was remorseful straight after it happened. He was staying on the pitch, imo, to see if the dude was ok.
@Nollaig Elliot: no he didn’t have a right to have his foot that high, that is against the rules. He had a right to go for it with his head.
@William Boland: I’m gonna agree to disagree with ya there lad.
@Nollaig Elliot: it’s in the rule book, so I can’t see how you would disagree.
@William Boland: ian wright, Alan shearer and Gary lineker all agreed he had to go for the ball in the circumstances. Definite red but understandable that he would try to flick the ball over the keeper. Just a pity they collided.
@Patrick O’Sullivan: Ian Wright, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker were all strikers, of course they would say that. Some pundits these days think they are the last word on footballing matters when at the end of the day they’re only paid for their opinion. Ex referees and people with a proper grasp of the rules are who I’d be listening to.
@William Boland: I’m disagreeing with you not the rules. I agree with the decision 100%. But as a striker myself in my day, I woulda went for it too.
@Martin Quinn: I support United but that has nothing to do with it as I’m not biased, if you saw my comments here the other day you’d see I actually thought Manè should have only received a yellow.
If he did the keeper would have taking mane out and seen red it was 50/50,thought it was a red but after seeing the two other incidents in the last few days I’d have to wonder bout consistency
@John Ryan: how would the keeper have been sent off when he won the ball?
@John Ryan: as for the other 2 incidents, I didn’t see the Newcastle one. But the West Ham one was completely different. The studs weren’t showing, and he slipped which made it look worse. It’s similar to a tackle being a little late, and 1 up the shin with studs showing.
Just seen IT, seeing clowns everywhere, thought that was one behind his ear.
@Adrian Costigan: did he add the smiley face Tat before or after he got a boot in the face?
Someone complaining that he didn’t wave at supporters when he was being stretchered off. What a wally. Maybe he should have stood up and waved. Another comment suggest that it was accidental. Mane should be banned for five games. Not accidental.
The little s€umbag should be done for GBH
@powerfix: seen worse in most hurling match…..and they play on!
@Quad Quad: good for you probably because the muck savages have helmets etc
Cut himself shaving??
