Two-time All-Ireland winner appointed new Down boss

Eamonn Burns was ratified last night.

DOWN HAS A new management team in place with news that Eamonn Burns has been ratified as manager of the senior footballers.

The two-time All-Ireland winner served as a selector under James McCartan in 2013 and 2014 and has served as manager of Ballymartin, Darragh Cross and Tullylish in the club game.

The teacher from Newcastle will confirm the rest of his management and backroom team later this month.

The Down GAA County Committee ratified the appointment of Eamonn Burns as the new manager of the Senior Football Team at a meeting this evening.

County Chairman Sean Rooney welcomed the appointment, stating that:

“Eamonn Burns will undoubtedly bring the same degree of commitment and passion to the job as manager as he did when he was a player and we all wish him well”

Former senior manager McCartan was also announced as the new manager of the minor side.

Down will play in Division 1 in 2016, with home games against Dublin, Kerry and Donegal. They have been drawn to face Monaghan in next year’s Ulster championship.
