IT WOULD BE fair to say Northampton’s Dylan Hartley has a chequered history. The hothead hooker is never far from controversy and this afternoon received his second career red card for an unsavoury elbow to the face of Matt Smith.
The Leicester Tigers centre had legally cleared Hartley from a ruck but the England international didn’t take kindly to the challenge and responded in kind.
Irish referee JP Doyle was initially going to give Hartley a yellow card for the incident but on advice from the Television Match Official, he brandished a red.
