Major coup for Dundalk as capture of Connolly is confirmed

The former Ipswich Town winger has been one of the League of Ireland’s top talents for the past 18 months.

DUNDALK HAVE THIS evening announced that Dylan Connolly will join the club from Bray Wanderers.

The 22-year-old has been one of the SSE Airtricity League’s top players over the past 18 months since joining the Seagulls following a year at Ipswich Town.

According to RTÉ, Connolly has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Lilywhites. Dundalk are understood to have paid Bray a fee of €40,000 for the pacy winger.

Stephen Kenny had attempted to sign Connolly as a replacement for Daryl Horgan at the end of last season, before the player agreed a new two-year contract with Bray.

Connolly, who has scored five Premier Division goals this season, has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at U21 level.

He played for Bohemians and Shelbourne before Mick McCarthy brought him to Ipswich, where he was unable to make a first-team breakthrough.

Dundalk travel to play Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds tomorrow evening but Connolly won’t be eligible to face his former club as the transfer window remains closed until this Saturday, 1 July.
