CHRIS SHIELDS WAS the goal-scoring hero as Dundalk booked their spot in this year’s Setanta Sports Cup final tonight.
Shields’ only goal of the game sealed a 3-1 aggregate win and set up a decider with Sligo Rovers next month.
After a scoreless first half, the 23-year broke the deadlock a couple of minutes after the interval. Ruaidhri Higgins sent in a free kick which wasn’t dealt with by the visitors and Shields volleyed it home.
It’s the Louth side’s first time back in the tournament decider since the Hoops beat them in 2011. The venue will is yet to be confirmed.
