Stunning strike from Robbie Benson had Dundalk dreaming big for a while

Stephen Kenny’s side were in front at half-time in Warsaw.

DUNDALK DARED TO dream in Warsaw as Robbie Benson’s stunning first-half strike had them in front at the break.

Stephen Kenny’s side took the lead on 19 minutes, after starting the crucial Champions League play-off against Legia Warsaw well.

Sean Gannon’s right-wing cross was headed back across goal by David McMillan and Benson ran onto the dropping ball to lash an outstanding volley to the top corner.

It was a ferocious hit and it meant the Lilywhites trailed 2-1 on aggregate.

But they couldn’t add to the tally and conceded an equaliser late on to bow out of the competition.
