DUNDALK KNEW THAT they had to score at least once against Maccabi Tel Aviv tonight — and they did.
But the Lilywhites had a mountain to climb in the second half to keep their Europa League chances alive.

Despite going behind to a Tal Ben Chaim penalty in the 21st minute, Dundalk were back on level terms five minutes later when Eli Dasa turned Chris Shields’ cross into his own net.
But Tel Aviv took a 2-1 lead seven minutes before the break when Dor Micha’s shot squeezed under Gary Rogers’ body.
Stephen Kenny’s side needed at least a score draw from their final Group D game to have any chance of progressing to the last 32.
But their fate was also in the hands of AZ Alkmaar and Zenit St Petersburg. A win for AZ would render Dundalk’s result in Tel-Aviv meaningless.
In the end, AZ won out 3-2 in Alkmaar.
