Ex-Galway coach has the inside track on six of the Dublin hurlers

A former Galway selector is working closely with a large number of Dublin hurlers on the club scene.

FORMER GALWAY SELECTOR Mattie Kenny will know all about some of the Dublin players when Galway meet Dublin in this Sunday’s Leinster Championship quarter-final in Croke Park.

Having missed out on the manager’s position in Galway last year, Kenny is now managing Cuala and has a large number of the Dublin senior hurlers in his panel.

Cian O’Callaghan, Mark Schutte, David Treacy, Paul Schutte, Darragh O’Connell and Colm Cronin are all involved in the Dublin set up and Kenny’s Cuala senior team.

O’Callaghan reckons his club manager knows their style of play very well.

“He knows plenty about the Cuala lads and their style of play. I’m sure Mattie’s professional and he’s not divulging any secrets.”

While the former Galway selector may have inside information to pass on to his native county, O’Callaghan says he hasn’t gotten any tips on the Galway players from his boss.

“Even if I asked him, he wouldn’t give me anything!” smiled O’Callaghan. “He’s a great character. He’s just one of these men that absolutely loves hurling. Absolutely loves it.”
