In the early game at Parnell Park, a couple of points from Kevin O’Reilly helped Lucan Sarsfields establish a narrow 0-12 to 0-10 half-time lead.
Lucan Sarsfields continued to maintain a narrow advantage in the early part of the second period, with O’Reilly continuing his fine individual performance with a number of additional points.
O’Tooles then levelled the scores on 62 minutes, as Gearoid Arthur converted a penalty to make it 1-17 to 0-20, sending the game into extra time in the process.
It remained a tight affair thereafter, as Reilly and Arthur, as well as Eoghahn O Conghaile and Liam Ryan added further scores.
Yet at the end of extra-time, the teams still could not be separated, meaning they will meet again this Sunday at 2.30pm in Parnell Park.
In tonight’s other quarter-final, a lively start saw David Treacy put Cuala a goal to the good via the penalty spot early on.
Mark Schutte, who won the penalty, then added a second goal 10 minutes later to make it 2-3 to 0-3 in his side’s favour.
Three points from Alan McCrabbe boosted Craobh Chiarain, before a third goal — this time from Colm Cronin — put Cuala in control.
However, McCrabbe hit back again with a goal from a free to make 3-7 to 1-8 in Cuala’s favour at half-time.
A Colm Cronin goal then extended his side’s lead after the break, meaning Craobh Chiarain went nine points behind.
Further points from Darragh O’ Connell and Treacy ultimately made the game safe, as Cuala earned a convincing 4-16 to 1-11 win. They go on to meet Boden in the semi-finals of the competition.
Meanwhile, in Tipperary, in tonight’s Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Football Championship Quarter Final, Aherlow Gaels beat Eire Og Annacarty 0-15 to 0-8. They will now play Clonmel Commercials in Sunday’s semi-finals.
