Connolly's cracker powers Vincent's past Sylvester's

St Jude’s and Lucan Sarsfields also advanced to the next round of the Dublin SFC.

A FIRST HALF howitzer from Diarmuid Connolly set the tone for St Vincent’s comprehensive 3-12 to 1-09 win over St Sylvester’s in the second round of the Dublin senior football championship at Parnell Park tonight.

The standout moment of the first half was undoubtedly Diarmuid Connolly’s excellent goal as Vincent’s led 1-07 to 1-05 at the break. The Dublin forward picked up the ball just inside the opposition half and after beating a number of defenders he exchanged a one-two with Mossy Quinn before volleying the ball to the net.

The second half was more of the same from the defending All-Ireland champions as they eased to an eight point win after further goals from Ruairi Trainor and Shane Carthy.

In the other two championship games tonight, Lucan Sarsfields beat Raheney 2-12 to 0-12 while St Jude’s ran out comfortable victors against Whitehall Colmcille by a score of 1-13 to 0-06.
