The first Dublin-Kerry football league final in 29 years is in store later this month

Dublin saw off Donegal today while Kerry defeated Roscommon.

FOR THE FIRST time since 1987, Dublin will face Kerry in a football league final after both counties triumphed in today’s semi-final clashes.

Dublin saw off Donegal by ten points in Croke Park this afternoon while in the curtain-raiser Kerry’s goalscoring power swept them past Roscommon in the other last four tie.

It means that Jim Gavin and Eamon Fitzmaurice’s sides will battle it out for honours in the Allianz Division 1 football league decider on Sunday 24 April in Croke Park.

Dublin saw off Kerry by 1-11 to 0-11 in the counties last final meeting back in 1987.

The game later this month will be a repeat of last September’s All-Ireland final and will be the first time since 1993 (Dublin against Donegal), when a league final pairing is a repeat of the previous year’s Sam Maguire decider.

Dublin will be chasing their fourth consecutive Division 1 league crown after the 2013 final win over Tyrone, 2014 final success over Derry and the 2015 final triumph.

Kerry are appearing in their first league final since 2009 when they defeated Derry.

But who do you think will be crowned football league champions? Let us know.
