GREGORY MCGONIGLE’S DUBLIN slumped to a second defeat in Division 1 of the Tesco Ladies National Football League today.
Last year’s beaten League and All-Ireland finalists lost by 2-8 to 3-11 on their visit to Kerry and are now outside of the crucial top four play-off places.
The sides were level at half-time – 2-6 apiece – with Dublin captain Lyndsey Davey and Carla Rowe registering goals for the visitors.
Sarah Houlihan and veteran forward Patrice Dennehy netted for the Kingdom, who managed to hold Dublin to just two points in the second half.
Kerry outscored the Sky Blues by 1-5 to 0-2 in the second period in Killarney and Louise Galvin’s goal with 13 minutes remaining sealed a comfortable win. Dublin also lost All Star Sinead Goldrick to injury ten minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Cathriona McConnell scored 1-7 for Monaghan in their massive 1-19 to 2-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Laois.
Noirin Kirwan and Martha Kirwan scored second half goals for hosts Laois in Crettyard but Monaghan were ahead by 1-13 to 0-0 at half-time. Monaghan were in complete control during the first half and McConnell put the visitors on their way to a big win with the only goal of the game in the fourth minute.
Meanwhile, Mayo superstar Cora Staunton was in red-hot form for the Westerners once again. Staunton scored nine of Mayo’s 12 points in Swinford as the home side beat Tyrone by 0-12 to 1-4.
At half-time, Mayo were 0-6 to 0-2 in front but it was Tyrone who got off to the better start with the opening two scores of the game. Mayo hit back with points from Staunton, Rachel Kearns and Fiona McHale to hit the front.
Mayo went on to lead by four at half-time and while Tyrone registered the opening score of the second half through Joline Donnelly, the home side stormed 0-9 to 0-3 clear.
Gemma Begley netted a penalty goal for Tyrone but the Red Hands remain deep in relegation trouble and pointless from their opening four League outings.
Last Friday evening, holders Cork maintained their steady form with a third victory from four outings. The League and All-Ireland champions pulled off another of those Houdini acts they have become famous for as late points from sub Áine O’Sullivan and Rhona Ní Bhuachalla sealed a 1-14 to 3-7 win over Galway.
Tracey Leonard goaled in the first half for Galway, who led by 1-5 to 0-7 at Mourneabbey.
Edel Concannon and Leonard added further goals for the Tribeswomen in the second half, with Grace Kearney on target for Cork, before the hosts snatched a late win.
