Dubs boss Jim Gavin believes "questionable" ticket prices are squeezing fans

The Dubs boss has given hope to fans that forward Alan Brogan will be fit to face Meath in the Leinster Final.

DUBLIN BOSS JIM GAVIN has come out firmly on the side of cash-strapped Gaelic supporters after the Leinster Council refused to budge on a ticket price discount deal for the county’s Leinster senior finals.

Dublin had appealed to the council for cut-price tickets for supporters wishing to watching the Dubs take on Galway in the hurling, this Sunday, before the footballers face off against Meath a week later. The GAA have made extra family tickets available for the games.

Speaking to TheScore.ie at Dublin’s press briefing on Wednesday, Gavin questioned the ticket prices  but admitted he understood that provincial councils ‘need to generate funds.

“Certainly the ticket prices would be questionable. Again, I understand that provincial councils need to generate funds at these games to give it back into the clubs so it can go back to grassroots level.

“That’s commendable but for me the puzzling thing is that for the National League the Dublin County Board had the ticket prices at probably €14-€17. And for a 100% increase for Championship games does seem a bit much.

“For example, if you have two teenage kids that want to go to both games, the tickets are €30 I think, do the maths on it. It is two very expensive weekends for that family. So you would hope they might come up with some solution yet.”

Turning his attention to the Leinster Final, Gavin revealed forward Alan Brogan was doing well in training but was not prepared to commit to his selection against Meath.

He said, “It’s probably a bit too early to say whether he can feature in the Leinster final. We’ll see how he progresses over the next week or so.” Gavin added:

All players are in contention. None more so that Eoghan O’Gara, who pushed hard in the two weeks before the game. He’s in that same bracket. We’ll see how he progresses over the next week or so.

“No more so than any other players, he needs to perform on the training pitch and if that happens, he comes into contention. There is a lot of competition for places in the side at the moment so there is no exception for any player. They need to perform to get the slots.”
