A DUBLIN FOOTBALLER has been banned for eight weeks following an incident against DCU.
The Leinster Council suspended Jason Whelan this evening for “inflicting injury recklessly” in the O’Byrne Cup quarter-final.

The Dublin County Board and the player have indicated to the Leinster Council that they will accept the sanction, which was imposed in accordance with Rule 7.2 Category III (vii).
Controversy surrounded Dublin’s exit from the competition after an unnamed DCU player alleged that they had been ‘bitten’ in the second half.
Referee David Gough made reference to the incident in his official match report, prompting provincial chiefs to open an investigation.
Leinster’s Competitions Control Committee last week appointed a sub-committee to handle the allegations.
Whelan made his senior debut in the National Football League last season. The Ballymun Kickhams clubman was recalled again by manager Jim Gavin for the Dub Stars challenge match and the opening pre-season games.
