Dublin could host F1 event next year but what do you think?

The capital is in the running to host an event that will excite petrol heads across the country.

FORMULA 1 DRIVERS could be coming to Dublin next year for a one-off race that could attract 100,000 spectators, according to a report.

Writing in the Sunday Times (subscription required) Colin Coyle reports that Dublin is in the running to host the event known as Bavaria City Racing in 2012 which showcases the horse-power of the likes of Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and David Coulthard who will have to navigate around some of Dublin’s most famous landmarks.

The paper reports that plans have been drawn up to a host a six-hour show that would see drivers do laps of the city centre. They would begin at the Point Village, driving up Nassau Street and through College Green before finishing at O’Connell Bridge.

Check out some of the drivers showboating at the Rotterdam event in 2009. The council won’t be too happy with how they’re treating the roads though…
