James O'Donoghue's Legion lose to Dr Crokes as Portlaoise complete eight-in-a-row

Elsewhere, The Nire also won their seventh Waterford SFC title today.

PORTLAOISE MADE IT eight Laois SFC titles in-a-row with a relatively comfortable 2-14 to 0-9 win over Arlse Killeen in today’s decider.

Paul Cahillane’s goal late in the second half rounded off the win and completed a remarkable achievement for the Laois kingpins.

In the Kerry club championship final, Dr. Crokes exacted revenge on their parish rivals Killarney Legion for their defeat in the county championship with a 4-13 to 1-9 win.

Crokes bagged two early goals through Ambrose O’Donovan and Kieran O’Leary to move into a 2-1 to 0-1 lead, but Legion pulled it back to a two point gap at the break.

Recent All-Ireland winners Johnny Buckley and James O’Donoghue traded goals for their respective sides during the second half. Ambrose O’Donovan’s second goal rounded off an impressive win.

Finally in Waterford, The Nire were five point winners over Stradbally in the SFC final.

They will play Limerick champions Ballylanders in the Munster club championship after they delivered a first title since 2008.

Am i right in saying that if an amalgamated team wins the county title in Kerry then Crokes will get to defend their munster title?

What’s the difference in the the championship Dr Crokes won today and the one Austin Stacks and Mid Kerry are playing for next week?

Next week’s game is the County Championship final. That competition involves senior club teams, plus amalgamated divisional teams made up of several non-senior clubs e.g. Mid-Kerry.If a divisional team wins the county championship, then the Club Champions represent Kerry in the Munster Club Championship. So if Stacks lose next week,Crokes will defend their title.

Has it happened often in Kerry where the same team wins both club and county championships… I’m guessing the divisional sides aren’t allowed compete for the club title. Could someone shed some light on the format please.

Yes Crokes won both club and county championships in recent years. The club championship is just for senior clubs so no divisions allowed.
