THERE MAY BE new AIB Munster senior football club champions this year after Dr Crokes bowed out of the Kerry championship yesterday at the third round stage.
Dr Crokes have won the last three Munster club football titles but were defeated in the Kerry SFC by Killarney rivals Legion by 0-17 to 0-15. James O’Donoghue, man-of-the-match in the recent Munster final, kicked 0-5 for the winners while ex-Kerry minor Conor Keane struck 0-6.
The result was a major disappointment to Dr Crokes who last February’s All-Ireland semi-final tie against Castlebar Mitchels. They lost the first round of the Kerry SFC this year against Rathmore but had emerged through the backdoor stage with a win over Kenmare.
Despite Kerry seniors Fionn Fitzgerald, Kieran O’Leary, Johnny Buckley and Daithi Casey being in their ranks, they fell to a two-point loss last night. They can still force their way into the provincial championship as Kerry representatives if a divisional team wins the county championship and then Dr Crokes win the club championship.
Dr Crokes exit throws the Kerry championship wide open as the quarter-final picture was completed over the weekend. Kerry senior attacker Paul Geaney struck 1-5 as 2012 finalists Dingle defeated St Brendan’s by 1-16 to 2-11 on Saturday night. 2013 finalists Austin Stacks were also victorious with Shane Carroll bagging 0-8 in their 0-17 to 2-5 win over Rathmore.
Winning Feeling
Bryan Sheehan notched 0-4 to help South Kerry defeat Miltown-Castlemaine by 1-10 to 0-9. Marc Ó Sé was involved with West Kerry as they overcame Kilcummin by 1-16 to 2-11.
Elsewhere Shannon Rangers enjoyed a 2-12 to 0-12 success over St Michael’s-Foilmore, Laune Rangers beat East Kerry by 3-13 to 2-15 and Mid Kerry overcame Feale Rangers by 2-12 to 2-5.
Wonder if he’s convinced the owners to write off this season. Just get back into Champions League and used the time to evaluate new signings. Squad needs a serious refresh particularly at left back.
It seems a strange move alright. Even if he concentrates on champions league. He still needs to have the quality to compete in Europe, and at the moment that defense won’t be good enough.
Klopp bought Van Dyke in January, and it changed their season.
@Thefallguy: I think if they have laporte back soon (I think he’s back in January) they could win the champions league. Between themselves and Liverpool for me. I think city should forget about the fa cup and league cup and only focus on the league and perhaps more importantly champ’s league.
