Douvan wins at Punchestown to underline Cheltenham credentials

The Willie Mullins-trained horse showed its class.

DOUVAN CRUISED TO victory in the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown today.

The performance under jockey Ruby Walsh emphasises his position as favourite for the Queen Mother Chase at Cheltenham next month.

The win extends the Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old’s unbeaten record to nine.

Realt Mor put some pressure on but Douvan showed its class to pull clear and finish well clear. Draycott Place came in third while Douvan’s nearest market rival Smashing was pulled up.

“He sauntered along at the front at his own speed and won as he liked,” Walsh told At The Races. ”He just has a huge amount of natural ability. You don’t have to do anything.”
