Doctor: 'I never saw Lance Armstrong dope'

Michele Ferrari has said he did not see the cyclist take drugs.

THE DISGRACED DOCTOR who was banned for life by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in July for his role in the systematic doping that took place at Lance Armstrong’s US Postal service team has insisted he did not see the cyclist take drugs.

Michele Ferrari told Al Jazeera: “I’ve never seen any doping from Lance Armstrong. I can say I’ve never seen, I never heard something about that.”

A total of 26 witnesses, 11 of whom were former team-mates of Armstrong, mentioned doping-related incidents involving the 59-year-old Italian doctor in USADA’s report, published in October.

Despite that, Ferrari remains defiant:

“My relationship with some team-mates of Lance Armstrong was very, very short and occasional, it was not strict.

“There are six riders that accused me, but these riders, I didn’t have any relationship, any consulting with these guys.”

He added: “[Armstrong] never asked me for information about doping.”

Ferrari has previously denied having a professional with Armstrong after 2005 but, according to USADA, has admitted to accepting payments from the former seven-time Tour de France winner totalling more than €760,000 between 1996 and 2006.
