DJ Carey dismisses reports linking him with Waterford job

The Kilkenny legend says it’s ‘news to him’ that he is in the running to be the Deise boss.

KILKENNY HURLING LEGEND DJ Carey has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant Waterford senior hurling manager position.

Carey informed local Kilkenny radio station, KCLR96FM, today that it was ‘news to him’ that his name was set to be put forward as a nomination for the role despite being mentioned in a report this morning in the Irish Examiner.

Waterford clubs have until midnight tonight to nominate candidates to be the next manager but they have to ascertain beforehand whether those candidates are willing to go forward for the position.

It was announced last week that former Waterford hurlers Stephen Frampton and James Murray would help select the next manager. Frampton and Murray agreed to be on a six-man committee that will choose the new boss.

They will join four members of the Waterford county board executive on the appointments group.

It was announced last month that Michael Ryan was not going forward for the 2014 campaign having been in charge of Waterford for the last two years.

It subsequently emerged that decision came after a players meeting where a change in manager was sought.

But Ryan did tell RTE’s programme ‘Championship Matters’ programme that he would keep an open mind about allowing his name to go forward again for the job.

As a fan of the League of Ireland I am delighted with this, however this is not the first time Finn Harps have been down this road, they now need to put a suitable business pan together in order to run the club with in its mean, unfortunately that may mean reducing the players and managers budget dramatically. I think Monaghan Utd may be actually the only team in the league that live within their means

As for the could of been spent on other causes, I am not 100% sure but is there not money set aside for different departments i.e. Roads, Sport & Reconciliation etc., etc.

From what I gather this was a special one off payment. They should have just burnt the money at least they’d have got some warmth off it! Just delaying the inevitable, Finn Harps is not sustainable as a business.
As for the plans for a 5,000 seater stadium in Ballybofey??! Pfft!

Disgraceful waste of taxpayers money! The roads are in sh*te and the council don’t have enough money to fix bloody potholes, yet they have 20K to waste on a completely unsustainable business. How beneficial to the local community is 100-200 people turning up to Finn Park every couple of weeks for a few months a year!?!
