Did Torres slag off his 'slow' Chelsea teammates?

Villas-Boas launches an investigation into apparent criticism by out-of-favour Spanish striker.

JUST WHEN YOU thought it couldn’t get much worse for Fernando Torres, he goes and opens his mouth.

The misfiring Spanish striker is at the centre of an investigation into an interview he gave to Spanish media in which he appeared to criticise his own team-mates.

Torres is quoted as labelling Chelsea’s ‘older’ players as ‘very slow’, and insisting Juan Mata’s arrival was ‘necessary’.

The Press Association reports that manager Andre Villas-Boas wants answers from Torres. The Portuguese – who dropped the World Cup winner for their trip to Sunderland weekend - said:

“We are going in-depth to regain the tape of that interview. We’ll see if things play exactly as they are in that interview.”

Torres says the translation on his site was inaccurate. The piece now seems to have been taken down from the site.
