Nick Williams’ charge made his seasonal reappearance in finishing fourth in the Betfair Chase, behind Kauto Star, but has pulled up lame and will not be able to compete.
Long Run is 5-4 favourite to repeat last year’s success, ahead of the rejuvenated Kauto Star, who is an 11-4 shot.
Trainer Paul Nicholls, meanwhile, is remaining cautious on the prospect of Kauto Star repeating his Betfair Chase success against the younger Long Run.

“History and common sense dictate whenever you gear a horse up to be at his absolute peak on one day, then it is asking a lot of them to repeat the feat just five weeks later. Especially in the highest class,” he told his Betfair column.
