'Arry's Transfer Window: Angel ready to take flight and the rest of today's gossip

Why is Wilfried Zaha still a Manchester United player? Will big bad Chelsea do it again? And even more silly questions answered just for you.

THE PREMIER LEAGUE is under way, but the Transfer Window is still wide open for any clubs willing and able to do big deals.

Anyone? Anyone at all…

DOUBLE DONE DEAL KLAXON: Not one but two Argentine defenders will be added to Premier League squads this weekend. First up, high-flyers Swansea who have signed Federico Fernandez from Napoli. While struggling Manchester United wheeled and dealed with Sporting Lisbon to jettison Nani and bring in Marcos Rojo.

‘Zaha, what are you still doing here?’: It’s this summer’s Bale to Madrid saga… okay, not quite, but Wilfried Zaha’s Old Trafford exit has taken forever. Obviously, the exit of Tony Pulis from Z’s former club complicated things massively, but The Star say he will be Malky Mackay’s first signing.

Oh Roma where art thou? Roma have reportedly given up on keeping Mehdi Benatia now that Bayern Munich are sniffing around. And the Daily Mail reckon they’ll fill the gap with Man City’s Matija Nastasic. Last week, the Serie A club were linked to Stevan Jovetic, but with strikers the one position City are actually a little short on, that was never likely.

Cut-price wingers: The Mirror go way out on a limb to say that Carlo Ancelotti has ‘conceded’ that Angel Di Maria “will leave ahead of the deadline” – a big jump forward from his ‘could’ yesterday – but what really catches the eye is the mooted fee of £66 million. That’s about £13.5m less than the €100 million kite that had been flown these past two weeks.

Spurs desperate to be Man United’s friend? We’re not quite sure how else to explain their interest in piling Marouane Fellaini into White Hart Lane. The Guardian say Javier Hernandez will head south (but not quite as far south as Madrid as he may have wanted) too which sounds a smidge more likely.

Sounds familiar:  Most papers in England this morning have jumped on the “STUNNING” report that William Carvalho will again show the pointlessness of a scouting system and instead just hi-jack another club’s deal at the last minute.

They say William is going to be the second Carvalho to make it big at the Bridge with £35m slammed down on the table before Arsenal and Manchester United could get the lid of their pen. Hmm…
