Dettori wins Ayr Gold Cup

Second Ayr Gold Cup win in a row on board Dandy Nicholls-trained Redford.

FRANKIE DETTORI has won the Ayr Gold Cup for the second year in  a row on board Redford.

Dettori’s day began badly when he missed a flight and couldn’t ride in his first mount, but rebounded to win atop the Dandy Nicholls-trained 14-1 shot.

It was a good day for Nicholls, as another of his thoroughbreds Victoire De Lyphar (9-1) was second.

Among the larger group on the far side, Hitchens (25-1) took third, with Genki (8-1) in fourth.

Tajneed was withdrawn after breaking out of the front of the stalls before the start of Europe’s richest flat race.
