The Departures Lounge: Redknapp in the hunt for Dunne

Ireland’s best defender may not have played since Euro 2012 but the Rs boss might be willing to take a gamble.

DESPERATE TO SHORE up a defence which has leaked 36 goals in 21 games this season, Harry Redknapp is searching high and low for a couple of capable defenders.

Having seen his attempts to acquire West Brom’s Jonas Olsson knocked back, the QPR boss has now reportedly set his sights on Richard Dunne.

Rumours have been rife this week that the Irish centre-half has been targeted by LA Galaxy, where he would link up with Robbie Keane, and although he hasn’t played since Euro 2012, Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has revealed that he could be back training next week.

Whether he would be keen to jump aboard the sinking ship at Loftus Road, however, is another thing.

Going?

One Irish player who does look set for a move, meanwhile, is full-back Stephen Kelly. The 29-year-old has featured just twice in the league for Fulham this season and, in dire need of a move away from the Cottagers, Brian McDermott has come to the rescue by offering a home at Reading.

Kelly is currently undergoing a medical with the Royals.

Jol is eyeing up a new goalkeeper in the shape of Jack Butland – a player tipped to be a future England number 1. Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton are all chasing the Birmingham teenager but Fulham are winning the race for his signature, according to reports.

Going?

Newcastle are enduring a difficult enough season as is, so won’t be happy to hear news that Fabricio Coloccini wants to leave this month and return to Argentina. The 30-year-old has spent four-and-a-half years on Tyneside but believes now is the time to leave English football and join Santa Fe-based San Lorenzo.

Sunderland have completed the signing of France U21 midfielder Alfred N’Diaye from Turkish outfit Bursaspor.

He’s only 22 and I think when he settles in, for the price that we paid, I think he well turn out to be good value for us,” said Martin O’Neill.
