IT WAS A day to remember for  JP McManus, as Tony McCoy and Thomas Edison secured a victory in today’s Guinness Galway Hurdle.

The firm favourite prior to the race, Thomas Edison ultimately won out by three lengths, with Bayan having to settle for the runner-up spot and The Game Changer third.

Speaking after the race, McManus praised the performance of the Tony Martin-trained seven-year-old, telling reporters: “He was a bit slowly away but he got a great run around under Tony and got the run of the race.

“Thankfully it all worked out well. I’ve never won the Galway Hurdle before. It was on my to-do list so I’m delighted.

“I think Tony had the horse in tremendous form so well done to everyone connected with him.”
