Russell: Even with Enright's whip, he could only finish eighth on the favourite.

Davy Russell borrowed another jockey's whip in the middle of a race

Russell and Phillip Enright both received five-day bans for this incident.

EAGLE-EYED RACING fans spotted a bizarre moment involving two top Irish jockeys during racing at Clonmel today.

Davy Russell was on board the 8/13 favourite Leave At Dawn in the Powerstown Handicap Hurdle but at some point on the first circuit, the two-time champion jockey lost his whip.

As the riders made their first turn for home, Russell leaned over and took the whip of Phillip Enright who was on 33/1 outsider Backinyourbox.

An interesting move but it didn’t end well for anyone. Leave At Dawn disappointed and finished a distant eighth behind the winner, Stay With It (10/1), while BackinyourBox tailed off into 12th.

Both jockeys were then called before the stewards and received five-day bans for breaching Rule 272 (acting “in a manner which is prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct or good reputation of horseracing”) while Enright also forfeited his riding fee.
